Pick your intermediate target. In this photo, the target is an area inside the pink circle. Choose the appropriate club, depending on the distance you need the ball to carry and roll.
Start the backswing with your shoulders using an even tempo. Not too fast, there is no rush, the ball is not going anywhere.
On the downswing your only thought should be to hit down on the back of the ball with steady acceleration. It is not a jab. Tempo is key on the downswing as much as the backswing. Head is very quiet.
